SKELETAL FRAMEWORK
Cartilages •There are 3 single cartilages •Thyroid •Cricoid •Epiglottic •There are 3 paired cartilages •Arytenoid •Corniculate •Cuneiform •Joints •There are 3 pairs of joints •Cricothyroid •Cricoarytenoid •Arytenocorniculate Ligaments Membranes |
INTRINSIC MUSCLES- There are 2 groups
Those that alter size of shape of inlet 1.Aryepiglottic muscles 2.Oblique arytenoid 3.Thyroepiglottics Those that move vocal folds 1.Posterior Cricoarytenoid (It is the ONLY abductor of vocal folds) 2.Lateral Cricoarytenoids 3.Thyroarytenoids and vocalis 4.Transverse arytenoid 5.Cricothyroids 1.Only intrinsic muscle that lies outside the larynx 2.Not supplied by recurrent laryngeal nerve 3.Contraction causes arch pf cricoid and Thyroid notch to approach each other NERVE SUPPLY All muscles are supplied by recurrent laryngeal nerve EXCEPT for cricothyroid which is innervated by external laryngeal nerve on its external surface |
